The Crown of Leaves combines a visual novel with point-and-click adventure mechanics in the unusual fantasy world of Shang-La. Its protagonist, Roui, is a jeweler and writer whose failed ambitions force him to return to his homeland of Latori, a place where old beliefs and mystical traditions are still deeply rooted.
Roui’s attempt to earn enough money to rebuild his life becomes complicated when the legendary Mad Rook begins interfering with the local community. The story mixes mystery, folklore, personal relationships, unusual creatures, and supernatural events while allowing different interactions to influence Roui’s path.
How the Gameplay Works
Players read dialogue, investigate illustrated locations, speak with characters, and search the environment for clues or useful objects. Items can be collected and combined or crafted when solving problems, bringing traditional point-and-click mechanics into the visual-novel structure.
Conversations and decisions can alter Roui’s relationships and lead through different routes. Exploration also rewards attention to hidden information that reveals more about individual characters and the wider setting, making investigation important beyond simply advancing the main plot.
