The Game of Life is a digital adaptation of Hasbro’s classic board game where players guide a character through major stages of life while trying to finish with the greatest amount of wealth. The journey begins by choosing between college and an immediate career, after which players spin the wheel and move along a colorful game board filled with opportunities, expenses, surprises, and important decisions.
As the game progresses, players can earn money, choose careers, purchase houses, start families, and encounter events that can either improve their fortune or create unexpected costs. The 2015 version recreates the traditional board with animated characters, cards, a digital spinner, and several ways to play. Matches support up to four players, making it possible to experience the game alone or with friends.
How the Gameplay Works
Players take turns spinning the wheel and moving their car along the number of spaces shown. Landing on different spaces triggers events that can involve receiving money, paying expenses, making decisions, collecting cards, or progressing through another stage of life. Choosing college can provide access to different career opportunities but comes with additional costs, while immediately starting a career provides an earlier source of income.
During the journey, players can get married, add children to their car, buy property, change careers, and collect money when passing payday spaces. Different routes can also present safer or riskier opportunities, requiring players to decide how they want to proceed. Eventually everyone reaches retirement, where final wealth is calculated and the player who finishes with the most money wins. Multiple game modes include traditional and faster matches, while games in progress can also be saved and continued later.
