About This Game:
The Longing is an unusual adventure where the player controls a solitary creature known as the Shade, the final servant of an underground king. The king falls asleep for exactly 400 days to restore his strength and orders the Shade to remain beneath the earth until the waiting period is complete.
Those 400 days pass in real time even when the game is closed. Players can simply wait for the king or spend the months exploring the enormous underground kingdom, decorating the Shade’s home, reading books, and discovering alternatives to obediently waiting.
How the Gameplay Works
The Shade walks deliberately slowly through caves, tunnels, and forgotten chambers. Certain locations physically change only after real-world time passes, meaning a path discovered today may not become usable until days or weeks later.
Players can collect furniture and decorations, read complete books, draw pictures, and investigate hidden parts of the underground kingdom. Different discoveries can eventually lead to choices beyond simply remaining beside the sleeping king for the full 400 days.
