About This Game:
The Suffering is a psychological horror action game that follows Torque, a prisoner awaiting execution inside Abbott State Penitentiary on the isolated Carnate Island. Torque has been convicted of murdering his wife and children, although his memories of what actually happened are incomplete. His situation becomes even worse when terrifying creatures suddenly overrun the prison.
The monsters are connected to the violent history of Carnate Island, with their disturbing designs reflecting different forms of execution, punishment, and suffering associated with the location. As Torque escapes deeper into the prison and surrounding island, visions and supernatural events gradually reveal more about his own past and the horrors that occurred there.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore prisons, underground areas, abandoned facilities, outdoor locations, and other environments while fighting monsters with firearms and melee weapons. The game can be played from either a first-person or third-person perspective, allowing the player to switch viewpoints depending on personal preference.
Torque also possesses a powerful transformation that temporarily turns him into a dangerous creature capable of tearing through enemies at close range. Throughout the story, players are presented with opportunities to help, ignore, or harm other characters. These actions contribute to a morality system that influences Torque’s memories and ultimately affects how his story is resolved.
