About This Game:
Ancient Wars: Medieval Crusades is a real-time strategy game built around large medieval conflicts between civilizations that operate differently from one another. Players can command the Arabs, Crusaders, Byzantine Empire, Mongols, or Russians, with each faction receiving its own units, buildings, abilities, bonuses, and strategic possibilities. Historical campaigns are joined by skirmishes, challenge maps, multiplayer battles, and several alternative game modes.
The game adds RPG-style development to its traditional RTS foundation by allowing individual units to gain experience and equipment. Weapons and other gear can be customized, while heroes, special units, and buildings provide a large selection of special abilities. Weather, physics, naval warfare, and reactive AI add additional variables to battles that can involve both land and sea forces.
How the Gameplay Works
Players establish an economy, construct faction-specific buildings, recruit armies, and issue commands to units in real time. Since the five civilizations are asymmetrical, the same strategy will not work equally well for every faction. Army composition can be adjusted further through equipment choices and unit progression, allowing experienced soldiers to become increasingly valuable.
Battles can be played through historical campaigns or modes such as Classic Skirmish, Conquest, Domination, Imperial, and Survival. Weather conditions and enemy behavior may change the situation during a match, while reactive AI adjusts its actions according to what the player is doing. Cooperative maps, competitive multiplayer, historical battles, naval combat, and editing tools provide additional ways to play outside the main campaigns.
