ARMA 2: Combined Operations brings together ARMA 2 and the standalone Operation Arrowhead expansion, creating a large military simulation package covering conflicts in two different fictional regions. The original ARMA 2 campaign takes place in the former Soviet state of Chernarus, while Operation Arrowhead moves the action several years later to the Central Asian nation of Takistan.
The package is built around military realism rather than fast arcade shooting. Infantry combat, armored vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, reconnaissance, squad leadership, ballistics, weather, and large environments are simulated in enough detail that missions can develop very differently depending on player decisions.
How the Gameplay Works
Players can serve in multiple battlefield roles, including infantryman, squad leader, vehicle crew, helicopter pilot, and special operative. Weapons use realistic ballistic behavior, while bullets can penetrate materials and lose effectiveness depending on range and the surfaces they strike.
Large maps provide room for long-range reconnaissance, vehicle movement, coordinated assaults, and combined-arms warfare. ARMA 2 includes the conflict in Chernarus, while Operation Arrowhead adds new Central Asian maps, thermal imaging, new weapons and vehicles, and another campaign. A mission editor also allows custom scenarios to be created.
