Blacksad: Under the Skin is a detective adventure inspired by the Blacksad comic series and set in an alternate 1950s New York populated by anthropomorphic animals. Private investigator John Blacksad is hired to investigate the suspicious death of a boxing club owner shortly before an important fight. What begins as a relatively focused case soon exposes hidden relationships, personal secrets, corruption, and several people with reasons to hide the truth.
The game places investigation and character interaction ahead of traditional action. Blacksad’s observations, conversations, and conclusions can influence how people react to him and how the mystery develops. Its film-noir presentation, period-inspired locations, and morally complicated characters help create the atmosphere of a classic private-detective story.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore locations for clues, inspect objects, interview witnesses, and observe characters for unusual details. Blacksad can use heightened animal senses to notice sounds, smells, movements, and other information that may not be immediately obvious. Collected clues are later connected through a deduction system to form conclusions about the case.
Dialogue choices can alter relationships and reveal different information, while some situations require decisions to be made before time runs out. Quick-time events appear during physical confrontations and dangerous sequences. The investigation can develop differently depending on what the player discovers and which conclusions they reach.
