Chrono Trigger is a classic role-playing game centered on a group of adventurers traveling across different periods of history to prevent a catastrophic future. After an experiment involving a teleportation device creates an unexpected time portal, Crono and his companions become involved in events stretching from prehistoric times to a ruined distant future.
Different eras contain their own characters, conflicts, locations, and consequences, while choices made during the journey influence how parts of the story unfold. The adventure became particularly known for its memorable party, time-travel structure, and multiple endings.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore towns, dungeons, forests, castles, and other locations while encountering enemies directly on the map rather than through separate random encounters. Battles use the Active Time Battle system, where characters become able to act as their gauges fill.
Each party member learns unique techniques, and certain abilities can be combined into Dual and Triple Tech attacks when compatible characters fight together. Equipment, magic, character growth, optional quests, and travel between time periods provide additional ways to strengthen the party and uncover different outcomes.
