Cold Waters is a submarine warfare simulation inspired by Cold War naval tensions. Players command a nuclear-powered attack submarine during hypothetical conflicts where NATO and Soviet forces clash beneath and above the ocean, requiring careful detection, positioning, and weapon use rather than constant direct confrontation.
The game combines tactical submarine controls with a dynamic campaign in which missions can involve intercepting enemy vessels, protecting friendly forces, attacking convoys, gathering intelligence, and preventing hostile naval operations.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control depth, speed, heading, sonar systems, weapons, and countermeasures while trying to detect enemy contacts without revealing their own position. Passive sonar allows quieter searching, while active sonar can provide clearer information at the cost of announcing the submarine’s location.
Torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles, and decoys are used depending on the submarine and mission. Successful attacks require consideration of range, enemy sonar, thermal layers, underwater terrain, and torpedo guidance, while damage can force immediate evasive action.
