Ghostrunner is a fast-paced first-person action game set inside Dharma Tower, a massive structure that shelters the remains of humanity after a global catastrophe. Players control a highly agile cybernetic warrior known as the Ghostrunner, who climbs through the tower while uncovering his past and confronting the forces controlling its population. The setting combines neon-lit cyberpunk environments with industrial areas, digital spaces, and heavily guarded sections filled with armed enemies.
The game is built around speed, precision, and movement rather than traditional cover-based combat. Both the player and most enemies can be defeated with a single well-placed attack, turning encounters into quick tests of timing and positioning. Wall-running, sliding, grappling, jumping, and dashing are constantly combined with sword combat, making traversal and fighting feel closely connected throughout each level.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move through linear environments from a first-person perspective while chaining together parkour abilities to cross gaps, avoid hazards, and reach enemies. The Ghostrunner can run along walls, slide under obstacles, grapple to specific points, dash through the air, and use environmental objects to maintain momentum. Combat usually requires players to close the distance quickly, dodge incoming fire, and eliminate enemies with a single sword strike before they can react.
When situations become more difficult, abilities such as Sensory Boost can temporarily slow time while the player adjusts movement in mid-air. Additional powers and upgrades are unlocked as the campaign progresses, providing new ways to deal with enemies and environmental challenges. Levels also include platforming sequences, laser traps, moving obstacles, puzzles, and boss encounters that require players to master the movement system as well as combat timing.
