Hitman: Codename 47 is a third-person stealth action game that introduces Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin who escapes from a mysterious medical facility before becoming a professional contract killer. Working for the International Contract Agency, 47 travels to different parts of the world and eliminates criminals, powerful targets, and other dangerous individuals. As the assignments continue, connections between his victims begin revealing information about his own origins.
The game established many of the systems that later became central to the Hitman series, including disguises, open-ended assassination areas, fiber-wire kills, sniper rifles, and the freedom to choose between quiet infiltration and direct violence. How the Gameplay Works
Players control Agent 47 from a third-person perspective and enter semi-open mission areas containing civilians, guards, targets, and multiple possible routes. Disguises taken from other characters allow 47 to blend into certain areas and approach targets without immediately attracting attention. Careful observation can reveal safer routes and opportunities to avoid large groups of armed enemies.
Weapons include pistols, assault rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, knives, and 47’s signature fiber wire. Certain large weapons cannot easily be concealed, making equipment choice important during stealth-focused missions. Contracts reward controlled assassinations and penalize unnecessary killing, encouraging players to use disguises and quiet methods instead of treating every mission like a normal shooter.
