About This Game:
Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror game set in 1898 around the remote Sker Hotel in Wales. Drawing inspiration from Welsh folklore, the story follows musician Thomas Evans after he receives a troubling message from his lover Elisabeth and travels to the hotel to discover what has happened there.
The once-grand property has become home to frightening figures known as the Quiet Ones. These enemies rely heavily on sound when searching for Thomas, turning footsteps, nearby objects, and even his breathing into potential dangers while he explores the hotel’s increasingly disturbing rooms.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore from a first-person perspective, searching rooms for keys, documents, puzzle solutions, and routes into new areas. Thomas cannot rely on ordinary firearms to clear every threat, so avoiding enemies and controlling how much noise he makes are major parts of surviving.
A breathing mechanic allows Thomas to temporarily hold his breath when a Quiet One comes dangerously close. Environmental puzzles and story items gradually reveal the history of Sker Hotel, while limited defensive opportunities provide a way to escape particularly dangerous encounters without turning the game into a conventional shooter.
