RIOT: Civil Unrest is a real-time strategy and crowd simulation focused on confrontations between protesters and police. Inspired by real-world civil unrest, the game presents scenarios where large groups face each other across streets, public squares, and other urban environments while tensions can either remain controlled or escalate into violence.
Players can experience scenarios from both sides of a confrontation, taking control of protest groups in some situations and law-enforcement units in others. Different equipment, crowd behavior, morale, and tactical decisions influence how each encounter develops.
How the Gameplay Works
When controlling police forces, players organize units, position defensive lines, use shields, deploy equipment, and attempt to control crowds. Protester scenarios instead focus on moving groups, maintaining momentum, occupying important areas, and responding to police tactics.
Crowds react dynamically as people become frightened, angry, injured, or separated from larger groups. Aggressive actions can cause situations to escalate quickly, while restraint may lead to different outcomes. Scenario objectives vary and can require holding positions, dispersing opponents, advancing through areas, or protecting important locations.
