The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an open-world action-adventure game that follows Peter Parker as he investigates a growing wave of crime across Manhattan. Set alongside events inspired by the 2014 film while telling its own version of the story, the game brings Spider-Man into conflict with criminals, powerful villains, and dangerous experiments connected to Oscorp. Characters such as Electro, Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, Kingpin, and Carnage appear throughout the campaign as Peter tries to protect the city and uncover the people responsible for escalating violence.

The game expands on the free-roaming structure of its predecessor with a larger focus on web-swinging, street crimes, side missions, and Spider-Man’s reputation as a hero. Players can explore Manhattan between story missions, stop criminal activity, discover collectibles, and complete optional challenges. How the Gameplay Works
Players control Spider-Man from a third-person perspective and move around Manhattan by web-swinging, wall-crawling, jumping, and using Web Rush to quickly reach selected locations. The swinging system uses separate controls for Spider-Man’s left and right web lines, requiring nearby buildings for successful movement and giving traversal a more physical connection to the city. Story objectives take players through both outdoor environments and indoor locations filled with enemies, stealth opportunities, and environmental obstacles.

Combat combines punches, kicks, counters, dodges, web attacks, and special takedowns against groups of enemies. Spider-Sense warns players about incoming attacks, while certain situations allow Spider-Man to quietly eliminate enemies from walls, ceilings, or elevated positions. The Hero or Menace system reacts to how frequently players stop crimes around the city, with ignored criminal activity causing Spider-Man’s reputation to decline. Experience earned through combat and missions can be used to unlock additional abilities, while suits gain improvements as they are used.
