About This Game:
Shadows of the Afterland is a supernatural point-and-click adventure set between 1960s Madrid and a strange world beyond death. The mystery begins when a maid named Pilar dies, yet the soul reaching the afterlife carries the memories and personality of Carolina, a police officer who has not even been born yet. Untangling how two identities became connected becomes the center of an increasingly unusual investigation.
Carolina eventually joins forces with César, a former ghost agent who understands more about the afterlife and its rules. Their investigation moves between the living world and the realm of spirits, introducing eccentric characters, supernatural powers, reincarnation, and questions surrounding events that connect different periods of time.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore locations, inspect objects, collect useful items, speak with characters, and solve traditional point-and-click puzzles. Conversations often reveal clues or information needed elsewhere, while inventory objects and environmental interactions are used to overcome obstacles. The supernatural setting also allows puzzles to follow rules that would not be possible in an ordinary detective story.
Possession is one of the more distinctive mechanics, allowing control to shift between different characters in the living world. Magical abilities and travel between realms create additional puzzle possibilities as the investigation expands. Progress comes from combining clues, understanding the personalities of both spirits and living characters, and determining what truly happened to Pilar and Carolina.
